Domain Does Not Host Dns

I simply followed these steps to install Windows 2012 DC to our existing domain running on Windows 2003. Alberto Mejia says : March 11, 2014 at 21:56 I have a domain in Windows 2003 domain functional level. When you raise FFL then you need to be sure that all your domains will have only 2012 Domain Controllers Regards, Krzysztof Reply Jeffrey Johnson says : September 7, 2013 http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2013/05/05/step-by-step-adding-a-windows-server-2012-domain-controller-to-an-existing-windows-2003-network.aspx -saige- 0 Message Active 5 days ago Author Comment by:MRGCD-IS2015-04-01 Comment Utility Permalink(# a40701733) Ok so it completed but gave the attached message. We have a multisite network with 10 dc's on other locations all as 2008 r2 dc's. Two of the three machines are no longer on the domain. Deleting this key or change the value to 0 fixes the DNS registration issue. Before you raise it to 2003 mode, please ensure that all of your Domain Controllers are running at least on Windows Server 2003. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2002584

This error says that the AD DC can not be contacted. After adding the Database copy in ECP console it displays Database copy status unknown for the DR exchange server. Regards, Krzysztof Reply Jeffrey Johnson says : August 29, 2013 at 15:48 We just replaced all of our 2003 and 2008 R2 DC's to 2012. Let's call it customer.local.

Is there any reason why I would want to go back or use 2008 r2 over 2012? Do you know what kind of DNS zones type do you have in your domain? There is however one thing that is not mentioned and I am concerned about.. When i try to add the server to the forest it works fine. All domain controllers in forrest run DNS with forest wide replication I get this message in DCpromoui logSOA query returned 9501

Typo fixed. A Delegation For This Dns Server Cannot Be Created To correct this issue, I removed the AD DS role and attempted to create a delegation on my first server currently running active directory/dns. Of course it still requires appropriate privileges to do that - Enterprise Administrator or Schema Admins group membership. https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28337431/DNS-cannot-be-installed-on-this-DC-because-this-DC-does-not-host-DNS.html Later on, I found the new Windows 2008 does not register its name in the DNS server.

I haven't demoted it yet but is that the reason? No Zone transfers and Name servers for all DCs listed. Or just DCpromo down the two domain controllers running windows 2003. We want to leave the rest of the list as is.

If you have no special requirements for that, just leave "Any domain controller" Domain Controller promotion Specify location for AD database and SYSVOL (if you need different that suggested) and go http://how-2-do.blogspot.com/2015/11/dns-cannot-be-installed-on-this-domain.html It's attached. 0 LVL 32 Overall: Level 32 Active Directory 9 DNS 5 MS Server OS 5 Message Active today Assisted Solution by:it_saige2015-03-31 it_saige earned 480 total points Comment Utility Domain Does Not Host Dns Regards, Krzysztof Reply UHM says : August 26, 2015 at 10:54 A Simple Question: We have 2 DC running 2003, suppose I added additional 2012 DC, but kept the FSMO If you need further assistance, please feel free to respond back.   Joson Zhou TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact [email protected] posting

I just added a windows 2012 r2 std, added roles and dcpromo it as per your article. How do I tell when replication is completed? I checked and confirmed that dns client and rpc services are all started.

I have also checked off that I want this server to host DNS as well since I have no existing DNS servers. my set up 2008 r2 DC & ADC, 2013 Exchange on 2012. Once you have done this, then you will want to do a metadata cleanup of all orphaned DC's.
