Can I resend? I've recently provisioned a new Ubuntu 10.04 server. Given that "dig localhost" returns that, it *should* behave the same, but obviously something here is not behaving as expected. I'm guessing that there is something funny about the way your local loopback is configured. What we need to see is strace of the postmaster itself. If not, wait a few seconds and retry.
