prince_alfieJune 1st, 2007, 06:52 PMI am going to test this on my lappy just to see how it goes? :D MaxsterJune 1st, 2007, 08:21 PMhmmm, i think it is very ecologic kagasheApril 3rd, 2008, 11:33 AMYesterday I was trying to impress my brother-in-law (who lives in USA) by running Ubuntu 7.10 Live CD on his Laptop. The lifetime of the Flash device is compromised by writes to /root, that is, to pup100. However, when I tried to do that, unionfs crashed. this contact form

The amount of space you have in the ramdisk depends on how much RAM is in the PC (and whether there is a Linux swap partition). One other thing, The Puppy has never crashed or froze up on me. This program enables you to use the current live-CD as the starting point, then add or remove packages as you wish. I could test the sound through alsaconf at the end of the configuration. http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=22027

But then Debian is not exactly famous for up-to-date packages... Puppy2 has two solutions. Anybody got any hints?

  • the awn dock(?) and simplicity is beautiful.
  • The "*" can be anything.
  • Note, a tmpfs top layer is an intermediary to hold the working and new files & directories, and is only really needed where we have to restrict writes (ex: flash memory)
  • Puppy2 has a much smaller initial ramdisk file, named initrd.gz (instead of image.gz), only about 1.1M, and this accounts for a significantly faster boot time. 5.
  • Then a couple of days ago I tried Puppy CE 2.15 with IceWM.
  • very cool BreepeeAugust 28th, 2007, 01:34 PMCan you install Puppy onto an LVM or access an LVM?

if you can get on without encryption, then you should make sure the following modules are loaded by typing: modprobe ieee80211_crypt_wep modprobe arc4 modprobe ecb this is what i have to Very impressed with it. Use 7zip in windows to do that. You could move them to the root of the USB flash drive and trying the default syslinux.cfg.

If that makes no sense, don't worry as the end result is the same. Found opera.sh in opt/opera10beta/ and dragged it to the desktop. You can test different resolutions but remember to hit cntrl alt backspace if the resolution chosen does not work (blank screen) and you can chose a lower resolution. If there is enough RAM, Puppy will copy usr_cram.fs into the ramdisk and then mount it on /usr.

SMNTPT="`mount | grep "/dev/$SAVEPART" | tr -s " " | cut -f 3 -d " "`" if [ "$SMNTPT" = "" ];then SMNTPT="/mnt/dev_save" mount -t $SAVEFS -o noatime,rw /dev/$SAVEPART /mnt/dev_save fi The image.gz file is about 6.5M, and this takes awhile to load. Was there something specific to Puppy 2.16 that caused this? As a matter of fact I'm using my laptop with a Marvel pcmcia card with ndiswrapper and works perfectly.

So far, the architecture is basically the same as for the live-CD. li10November 19th, 2008, 05:52 PMhey puppy linux is good but when I try to save the personal settings to a USB stick at shutdown all it seems to register is the It rocks!:guitar: steviebDecember 18th, 2007, 04:11 PMdoes ndiswrapper work with puppy? To get around that problem Puppy has a technique for checking that usr_cram.fs is the correct version.

it should then show up as a choice when saving. http://optimisersonpc.com/error-cannot/error-cannot-load-file-code-5555h-boot-auto-ini.html jpsimmSeptember 3rd, 2007, 11:33 PMAll I can say is wow. It recognizes my network card just fine. There has been a great deal of interest on the Forum in having a live-CD that does not need the hard drive at all, yet is still able to save personal

Movies play great and the package installer is awesome and functional. Adding fbxkb applet was a little difficult because I had to compile it from source. I think its made off of Slackware....Anyways....Puppy is nice and fast. navigate here So I really hope the puppy developers will look into this issue in the future.

You then needed to pick a screen resolution number that you wouldn't use and type in "915resolution 38 1024 600 16" in terminal. Registration is quick, simple and absolutely free. This is a search filter.

Iso file can now grow from 60-65M to 65-70M.

Perhaps I'm just particularly unlucky (or cursed! They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own. I'm struggling to figure out why this is as my CPU doesn't allow scaling so Debian can't be forcing it to run faster (Conky backs this up). AntmanOctober 3rd, 2007, 02:44 PMI will wait for a few days, always advisable after a new release.

placing my settings in a file on the same partition as ubuntu did the trick, and i can now dual boot with no problem. If the "off-blue" layer has the same file, it will not be visible, as it is overlaid by the same file on a higher layer. if pup_save.3fs exists in a fast media, can load direct... [ ! "`echo -n "$SAVEPART" | grep '^hd'`" = "" ] && SAVEDIRECT="yes" #...TODO not detecting sata and scsi fast drives. his comment is here does youtube work?

kagashe Kowalski_GT-RJuly 23rd, 2007, 09:16 PMIf the RAM is less than 128 MB then you should have Linux_SWAP partition which the Live CD detects automatically. Firefox 2.0 and earlier versions required Firefox build with pango which was not available for Puppy Linux. Did you get errors running the Connect Wizard?? The kernel vmlinuz is loaded into RAM, image.gz is uncompressed and loaded into a ramdisk.

The entire filesystem is writable Puppy1 has a rather complicated system whereby the home directory (/root) is writable, and /etc and /usr are made writable by actually saving the files inside

As soon as I changed the DVD drive from IDE to SATA, they wouldn't boot. I donated the laptop to a friend who didn't have a very good computer. DMI Chassis Asset Tag To Be Filled By O.E.M.
